Brass Blackįor creating the "aged" look, we use Brass Black by Birchwood Casey. Acetoneįirst, you'll need a cleaning solution of some sort to remove dust, dirt, and oils from the brass so that the chemical will be able to directly contact the brass. There are three products you'll need for this process. Have a look at some of our brass accessories. Instead of spending months or even years to develop this patina, we use a few products to force a chemical reaction that gives the brass that dark, worn-in look. While we love brass in its natural form, we sometimes like to transform that shiny, golden exterior into a worn and darkened patina. I get that accidents happen and these are just tools- but why can't you take care of your tools? Stuff's gonna last longer if you do.We offer quite a few different brass accessories at Craft and Lore. But overall, the light is still in excellent condition.
#BRASS FORCED PATINA SKIN#
The button is oxidised funny from sweat and skin oils, and there's clip wear on the body, and even a small gouge in the metal from a bullet spalling after hitting steel plate (wear eye pro folks!). It's not perfect, the bezel has dings, there are paint and anodization chips from sharing pocket space with knives. I have lights I've built and EDC'ed from 4+ years ago that are still in excellent condition. I understand the appreciation of tools over shelf queens, but you don't have to trash something to use it. In a very similar vein, I really don't understand the appeal of lights that look like they've been driven through all 7 levels of hell in the back of a running cement truck, or the owner has to stroll through a sandblaster on their way to and from work.
